Genesis of a masterpiece

Pablo Picasso's Guernica is considered the universal manifesto against any war. In this exhibition, the preparatory drawings of the twentieth century masterpiece are compared with the works of Italian Neorealism, in a unique and engaging museum itinerary.

The artistic path

The itinerary is divided into the rooms of the historic Palazzo Ferretti. In the first rooms, the works of the great masters of Italian Neorealism - including Guttuso, Sassu, Manzù, Caruso - tell the war with raw, violent images, which focus on the suffering of the individual and humanity lost in the drama of the conflict. .

Subsequently, in the heart of the exhibition, Guernica's preparatory studies reveal all the stages of creation of Picasso's masterpiece. The artist chose not to paint bloody scenes, but to focus on the deep meaning of the characters, on the use of broken lines and shapes, managing to convey all the suffering caused by the war and creating one of the greatest masterpieces of twentieth century art.
