Civic Archaeological Museum

This museum itinerary goes from the Bronze Age to the 18th century, retracing the main historical phases of Castiglion Fiorentino. In the rooms are exhibited the finds found in the territory and in the Cassero area, proving the Etruscan origin of the town. Origin also confirmed by the extraordinary reconstruction of a portion of the roof of the Etruscan Sanctuary, found in an important archaeological excavation in the municipality.

Municipal art gallery

Housed in the charming church of S. Angelo al Cassero, the Pinacoteca di Castiglion Fiorentino collects works of important artistic value. A true masterpiece is Bartolomeo della Gatta's painting "Stigmata of San Francesco", also exhibited at the Uffizi in Florence as part of the "Uffizi Diffusi" initiative for an exhibition dedicated to the Saint Patron of Italy, which is accompanied also the St. Francis of Margarito d'Arezzo, the luminous Madonna and Child by Taddeo Gaddi who was a pupil of Giotto, and some works by Giovanni di Paolo and Jacopo del Sellaio. The exhibition is then embellished with splendid examples of medieval and Renaissance jewelry, such as the Holy Cross, with gilded silver filigree, and the reliquary bust of Saint Ursula, engraved with enamels and precious stones.
